Oxford University Press ha creado www.100spanglish.es, una página web en la que los internautas tienen la posibilidad de colgar vídeos y donde se mide cómo se manejan en inglés, con el objetivo de evitar que los españoles hagan construcciones como "I am very preocupated" (Estoy muy preocupado) o "I have give a shower" (Me he dado una ducha) que ponen en evidencia su bajo nivel idiomático.
Según un estudio llevado a cabo por la entidad, España está a la cola de Europa en conocimiento de inglés y sólo el 20 por ciento de los españoles es capaz de mantener una conversación en una lengua diferente a la suya, mientras que el 44 por ciento de los europeos sí son capaces.
En www.100spanglish.es se pueden ver videos de personajes públicos españoles como José María Aznar, Emilio Botín o José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero hablando en un inglés bastante malo, y los usuarios pueden votar por el más divertido para hacerles ascender o descender en el ránking, en el que ahora Francisco Franco figura en primera posición con "Aiguanmuviman".
El premio para los mejores practicantes de spanglish es un sistema de aprendizaje de inglés llamado My Oxford English, un curso de inglés online tras el que el alumno puede conseguir un Título Oficial de la Universidad de Oxford.
Según el estudio de Oxford University Press, sólo el 9 por ciento de los españoles entre 18 y 55 años estudia inglés, y lo hace básicamente por tres razones: para entenderse cuando viajan (en un 35 por ciento), por trabajo (un 50 por ciento) y por satisfacción personal (un 15 por ciento).
El 29 por ciento de las personas en esa franja de edad nunca ha estudiado inglés, y del 71% que alguna vez lo ha hecho, 2 de cada 3 tienen un nivel bajo o medio-bajo, según el estudio.
Los motivos principales para no estudiar inglés son la falta de tiempo, en un 42 por ciento de los casos, y falta de interés en el 43 restante.
Las multinacionales especializadas en trabajo temporal dicen que los españoles son muy trabajadores, pero afirman que su gran problema es la carencia de idiomas: no tienen tanta fluidez en una reunión en inglés como cualquier otro europeo.
"Si habláramos inglés como en otros países seríamos los reyes del mambo", dijo un alto cargo de este tipo de empresas.
