About Me

My photo
I'm a habitual line crosser that believes everything happens for a reason, but life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances, you just have to live life to the fullest. Laugh as much as you can, spend all your money, tell someone what they mean to you, tell someone off, speak out, dance in the pouring rain, hold someone's hand, comfort a friend, love the ones who treat you right, forget about the ones who don't, pig out, smile until your face hurts, be a flirt, stay up late and fall asleep watching the sun come up, don't be aftraid to take chances or fall in love . . . and most of all live in the moment, If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. No one said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

What I'm getting into in the new year

I've never had the "lose weight" new years resolution.  I've done more life style changes.  For example, last year, my resolution was to kick my caffein addiction and I did.  This year, I decided that I was going to try and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.  However, now that I'm going to Brasil, I decided to add this to the mix, this program requires lots of drinking water and will help me shed some extra pounds I have gained this year, I saw a picture of myself today from not even a year ago and I could fit into my size 26 designer jeans and I want to be back at that.  I know that this huge flex in weight back and forth this year has been due to a lot of stress the past year and I need to just take better care of myself, so this is what I'm planning on doing from now until I go to Brasil and after tonight, I am not having more than one drink a day (I love my vino, sorry). True Friends . . .

are people who:
 - drive an hour to have dinner with you
 - who make you feel as though there is nothing they would like better than to spend time with you
- make you feel important and good about yourself
- bring out the best in you and make you want to be a better person
- like you for your strong points and accept you for your weak points
- you can have good conversation with
- who respect you and value your friendship
- you can go long periods of time without speaking and then pick right back up where you left off
- will take you on your birthday to get birthday cake and hot chocolate coffee even though the weather is horrible outside
- remind you when things are tough, that you have every right to feel the way you do, and remind you that "you will get through this"
- will get drunk with you, and when someone tells you, that you're being too loud, they tell that person "oh relax"
- has your back on the good days and the bad
- knows when to be the good cop and when to be the bad cop
- lets you know when you're being too hard on yourself
- Goes with you to see Mama Mia even though she hates ABBA
- Is there for you even when they're busy, or sick or have family in town or just plain tired
- knows when to be there for you and when to give you your space
- reminds you on bad days that you're "brilliant"

This past year has been a very challenging year, full of lots of changes.  The silver lining in all of this, is that I have been fortunate to be shown time and time again, how lucky I am to have such dedicated, intelligent, beautiful, funny friends that work hard and play hard.  I have been so blessed to have these people in my life, who remind me to not take life too seriously.

Attn All TriSigmas

In light of Kristen Faudree's death, many of us were talking about how unfortunate it is that we do not see each other as often as we like. As a result, those of us at Kristen's memorial service decided to start setting something once every month or so. I know that many of you do not live in San Antonio (including myself) but I wanted to include everyone I still kept in touch with in some way, in case at some point you are in town and would like to meet up. Please forward this on to anyone that you know who wasn't included. We will be meeting Dec 21 at Madhatters for Brunch and bottomless mimosas at noonish Feel free to contact me if you have any questions Thanks, Katie Warner

Just saw the trailer for Powder Blue and can't wait for it to come to the Theaters!

Zilker Park Trail of Lights

I usually go to this with my friends who have kiddos and I take my dog, we take coffee or hot cocoa with an added surprise or if it's hot we take a bottle of champagne and put it in the back of the stroller, fun for the whole family :)

Zilker Park

www.ci.austin.tx.us/tol/tree.htm

The Zilker Park Tree Lighting is an annual event that ushers in the Holiday season and marks the opening (a week later) of the Trail of Lights Festival. First-time participants are often overheard exclaiming in wonder "I thought it was going to be a real tree!" The tree is actually one of Austin's famous Moonlight Towers strung with a spiraling canopy of over 3500 lights. The tree lighting event features food, music, and other festivities.

Other Activities Include:
Spinning:
One favorite activity under the tree is spinning. Grab a partner or two or three. Stand under the tree, look up, and spin around and around.

Operation Blue Santa:
Bring any unwrapped toy appropriate for ages 12 and under and/or cash to the Blue Santa "Giving to Others" tent at the tree lighting ceremony.

Parking:
While Zilker Park is closed to private vehicles during the Trail of Lights, for the Zilker Tree Lighting just follow the long line of cars to the designated parking areas within a short distance of the tree. Be sure to come early!

Buy a mug, get free coffee for a week! Benefits East Austin elementary school.

Do you buy coffee at any of these fine Austin establishments?

Texenza Coffee (10 locations)
JP’s Java
Caffe Medici
Hot Mama’s
Bossa Nova Genuine Joe Flipnotics (2 locations) Sodade Little City Texas Coffee Traders If so, consider buying a super-cute, holiday-themed mug created by a student from UT’s Elementary School in East Austin. Coffee for Education benefits The University of Texas Elementary School’s nurse’s office and medical supplies. The fundraiser brings a select group of independent Austin coffee houses together to raise money for The UT Elementary School in East Austin. UTES provides exemplary education to a mostly low income and minority population of children. The school is distinguished by its innovative teaching methods, giving these children an outstanding education. To support these children and the school, just stop into a participating local coffee house to pick up your Coffee for Education mug. The fun holiday art on the mug was drawn by one of UTES’s very own students. Each mug also has a handmade gift tag that is personally signed by a student - SO cute and a GREAT gift idea! Mugs will be available for purchase December 4th through Christmas and are only $15 each. Early buyers will also receive a FREE cup of coffee DAILY for one week when they bring their mug into one of the participating coffee houses during the week of December 7-13th. 100% of the purchase price will benefit UTES. In the spirit of Christmas, this is truly a gift that gives.
